A valuable addition

A Content Organs Chapel 340R has recently been commissioned in the Dorpskerk of Sassenheim. The church is home to a magnificent historic pipe organ which, due to its original historic tuning, is less suitable for accompanying congregational singing and choirs during regular worship services. To better support the daily liturgical practice, a complementary solution was sought that would respect both the musical needs and the monument's historic character. The Chapel 340R proved to be the ideal choice, integrating seamlessly into its surroundings.

A versatile instrument

The Chapel 340R provides the organists with a versatile and reliable instrument for worship services, choir accompaniment and other church gatherings. Thanks to its advanced digital organ technology, the instrument offers a wide range of tonal possibilities, including authentic organ styles designed for various liturgical traditions. Great care was taken during the installation to preserve the appearance of the church. The loudspeakers have been positioned almost entirely out of sight, while the console has been mounted on a movable platform. This allows the instrument to be used flexibly without compromising the historic interior.

History of the church

The Dorpskerk is one of the oldest buildings in Sassenheim, with a history dating back to the twelfth century. Over the centuries, the church has undergone several renovations and restorations while carefully preserving its historic character. Today it serves as the main church of the Protestant Congregation of Sassenheim and remains an important meeting place for the local community. Besides weekly worship services, the church regularly hosts concerts, lectures and other cultural events.

Listen to the Chapel 340R

Following the installation, our colleague Gerwin Boswijk demonstrated the new Chapel 340R. In the accompanying video, he performs the well-known hymn Abide with Me using the Classical Dutch organ style. With its bright principals, warm flutes and powerful pleno, this characteristic sound is perfectly suited to the Dutch tradition of congregational accompaniment. The recording demonstrates how the Chapel 340R is not only a valuable complement to the historic pipe organ, but also an inspiring instrument for daily worship in the Dorpskerk of Sassenheim.
